International Plowing Match & Ottawa Valley Country Music Hall of Fame

So September is here!  It’s always unbelievable to me how quickly the summer seems to fly by. Yet, when I think about things that I did in June, it feels like a year ago.  How does that work?

If you’re looking for something to do this coming weekend, please join me at the Blue Skies Adult Music Camp.  Songwriting with Lynn Myles, guitar workshops with Keith Glass and fiddle workshops with me!   Should be a great weekend.  I’m really looking forward to the new experience.

If you’ve never been to a Plowing Match, head out to Finch later this month for the International Plowing Match.  There is much to see and learn and great music throughout the week.  I’ll be there with my Mushy Peas!

I’m realizing that my Induction into the Ottawa Valley Music Hall of Fame is just around the corner too!  I guess that means that it is really happening!  I still can’t quite believe it.  It’s a huge honour and I am extremely humbled to be receiving it.

I know I will see many of you there.  Thank you all for your interest and support in my music. This type of thing only happens because of you!  Thank you!!!!!!    Enjoy the cooler weather to come! Kelli

More Summer shows!

I can’t believe it’s August already and I haven’t booked a holiday!  I guess when my work brings me so much joy and happiness, I forget sometimes that I’m actually working!

If you’ve never been to Westben, just outside of Campbellford, ON,  please check it out.  It’s a beautiful old barn converted into a theatre with sides that open to allow sunshine and fresh air through.  It is a classy venue and set up.

The Mushy Peas and I played Westben last weekend and realized it was exactly 15 years ago, to the day, that we did our first ever show together at the Glengarry Highland Games!  I am so lucky to have them on my team!

We are preparing for the Enterprise Jamboree this weekend and then on to the Shelburne Fiddle Contest after that to perform two shows.  I know it will be a reunion of fellow fiddlers as always.

Cobden Fair and the Canadian Grand Masters’ Fiddle Camp will wrap up my summer schedule but it looks to be a busy fall season ahead too!

If you’re anywhere around the Kingston area in September, check out the Blue Skies Adult Music Camp in Battersea.  I will be teaching there with Lynn Myles and Keith Glass.   Should be a great new experience!

The International Plowing Match has us performing in Finch in late September.  That’s always a fun and interesting event.   Following that will be the Bereaved Families of Cornwall Annual Gala which is an incredible and magical evening for a wonderful Cause.

My busy season wraps up with my Induction into the Ottawa Valley Country Music Hall of Fame!  I don’t think that has hit me yet!!!!  It will SOON I’m sure!

National Fiddling Day (Fiddle Bill – two step) East Coast camps and Ontario Events

There must be a better way to stay on top of these blogs!  My apologies for the long delays.  I thank you for continuing to check in from time to time.   If you want to stay a little more on top of what’s happening, please sign up for my newsletter.  I am quite dependable to get that out once a month!

So the First National Fiddle Day was  celebrated across the Country and I’m proud to say that I wrote a tune to commemorate the occasion!  It spread far and wide in a matter of days and hours and I couldn’t be happier to hear all of you out there playing and sharing it.  Thank you!

I am just back from the East coast and enjoyed two fiddle camps and two house concerts.

It was a pleasure to play a couple of shows with Skip Holmes!  We have taught together for many years but never had the opportunity to play together!  thanks Skip for doing such a great job.

I taught at my first camp in Cape Breton last weekend for another first to add to the collection. What an honour it was to be a part of such a talented group of musicians and teachers!  Dwayne Cote put on a incredible show, as did Roger Stone, Allie Bennett, Richard Wood and many more! I had a great time and hope to do it again some time!  They even made me an Honorary Cape Bretoner!

Now home for a rest before getting busy with Band performances this summer (Check out Westben!) along with another camp in Clear Lake, Manitoba and of course, the Grand Masters!

Taking Time – New CD release this month!

Where does the time go?  My new CD coming out this week is titled “Taking Time” ironically enough!

I had an incredible experience performing with the Kingston Symphony in January.   It was such a thrill to hear my own originals played back to me!  It was a performance I will never forget and I do hope to do more of these!!!!

It was straight into more recording from there which has led me to right NOW – waiting for its release!!!!!  So excited to see this finally come to fruition.  I hope you will all enjoy it!

I have also been working hard on booking my BC tour for this Month.   I will be travelling with Mike Sanyshyn this time around and one performance with Barry Nakahara.   Should be great fun and I will enjoy doing some fiddle workshops along the way as well.

In BC we will be hitting:  Duncan,  Port Alberni, Victoria, Vancouver, Hope, Prince George, William’s Lake and Kamloops!

Happy New year!!  I hope everyone enjoyed a joyous Christmas season and that you have kicked your year off in good health.

I have hit the ground running as I have been preparing for my big show with the Kingston Symphony this weekend, Jan 17!

It will be an honour to share the stage with these incredible musicians.  Thank you to Andy Thompson and Bill Bridges for writing beautiful charts for my concert material.  This will be a thrill and I look forward to doing more symphony shows in the future.

Thank you to everyone who tuned into my online show in early December with Concert Window.  It was a very cool experience and I hope to do it again sometime.  Maybe when my new cd is ready to launch!

I’m wrapping up some final writing for the project and we lay down the bed tracks in the studio this weekend.  That means: bass, drums, guitar and maybe keyboards.  We build from there.  It’s very exciting and I will keep you posted!!!!

Watch for the details of my BC tour in March!

Apparently…  this is what all of my symphony music and recording ideas look like so far on a computer screen. Yikes!  We have barely recorded anything solid yet. I think we need a bigger screen!!!!!

Recording in Motion, Online Fiddle Concert, Healing Garden/Acoustic Harvest Music Series

I have been a little swamped lately but aren’t we all?   Thank you for checking in and for staying in touch.

Thank you to Terry Eagan and Lillian Wauthier for hosting a Wonderful concert in Scarborough recently.  It was part of an annual Healing Garden Music Fest and the Acoustic Harvest Music Series.

I performed with an outstanding group of Musicians which was a huge honour for me.  Thank you to  John Sheard,  Paul Mills, Wendell Ferguson, David Woodhead, Caitlin Hanford & Jason LaPrade for making this experience so incredibly rewarding!

The new CD recording officially kicked off yesterday!  I had Jake Charron in the studio to play piano on all of my fiddle tracks.  He is incredibly talented and has such a beautiful feel.   I didn’t want to quit!   It inspires me to continue to be creative in my writing and arranging until the recording resumes in January with the rest of the great musicians I have lined up!  Can’t wait!

I have a trio performance coming up in early December in an “online” format!  This will be a very strange experience, I’m sure, but it will to be a great way to reach more of you until I can see you in person.  Tune into Concert Window on December 4th at 8:00 p.m. EST to catch our mini webcast!

Preparing to Record

So I’m enjoying this beautiful time of year “outside” while staying creative “inside”!

I am very excited about my show with the Kingston Symphony in January.  I will have to learn to be a little more formal perhaps??  It should be fun and I will use this opportunity as a stepping stone to do more of this type of thing.

Studio time is coming up quickly too so writing projects have to be finished and arrangements have to be developed.  It’s a fun and exciting process that I want to take the time to enjoy…. not race to the finish line!

Great summer of Fiddle Camps and Festivals!

Ouch!  Sorry it has been so long since I updated my little website “journal”.   Hard to believe I actually KEEP a daily journal!

This social media thing is really something I need to be more “on top of” but it’s been a crazy, good busy, summer.

I just finished a show on Sunday and realized I have been going pretty steadily since the middle of March.  Time to have a wee bit of a rest but it’s already time to get busy booking 2015.  A few things are in the books already which is great.

I enjoyed fiddle camps this season in NS, ON, MB and SK.  It is so great to work with eager students and to continue to build  my fiddle family across the Country.  I had the honour of working with the best line up of Instructors at the Canadian Grand Masters Camp for their 25th anniversary in August.  Senator Hubley attended one evening and joined me in an impromptu step dance.  Very cool!

Thank you to all of my fiddle friends and colleagues for taking the ALS ice bucket challenge with me, in person, or via the net.  It was good fun and an great way to raise an incredible amount of money and awareness for this disease.

After finishing a great summer of camps and festivals, I have been busy now doing more of the House concert scene.  I really enjoy these intimate settings which allow me to get to know you all a little better.

Thank you all for your interest in my music and for coming out to show your support whenever you can.

I am now working towards my next recording, set to happen in January!  Stay tuned!

Back from the West

Just home from two weeks of work in the West.

I had a great time teaching at FiddlyNess at Ness Creek.   The first annual fiddle camp there.  It won’t be the last!  It was a great spot and everyone was wonderful to work and play with.

Enjoyed two shows in SK with Troy MacGilliveray and Jake Charron.   Good music and great laughs along the way.  Two people I would love to see more of, for sure.   Thank you to Cathy Sproule for setting everything up for us.  She can really make things happen and DOES!

Thank you to Daria Watkin and everyone at Clear Lake for another great fiddle week.  We have really become a big family there and it is a reunion every year.  Thank you to all of our students and to everyone who helped out through the week.

I had to come home for a rest but I came home with great pictures and more wonderful memories.

Now….. to focus on Band work coming up!!!!  I hope you’re all enjoying the summer season.  We can’t complain about the heat after the winter we had.
